PEPPA // STUDIO CLIENT SESSION DORSET

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing the lovely Peppa in our Beaminster studio recently. Peppa is a lovely Miniature Poodle x Lhasa Apso and a super dog model and if I had had a small bag with me to hide her in, I would have taken her home!

Peppa just loves being close by, especially to her mum, so when we started we did get some confused looks. If Peppa could talk I am sure she would have been saying “why am I here on my own in the middle of this backdrop, when I want to be with you?”

Pets very rarely stay in one place for long, so it’s important that I am ready to capture the shot when it happens.

Equipment aside, I always make sure that I regularly take time out to give dog models a little break as that gives me the chance to focus on the owners a bit. This diversion of attention is often all that’s required for pets to settle down and do their own thing, in other words, be themselves. So, while I am pretending to ignore the model, I will always keep one eye on what they are doing!

This could be playing with a toy, running around, or even sleeping. If it’s a behaviour that’s interesting and natural and something that the owner can identify as their pet’s character, then a reward is presented and it’s then a case of more of the same please!!
